Pousada De Sao Tiago
Originally a fortress built by the Portuguese in the early 17th century to defend Macau against hostile European nations and local pirates, the Fortaleza de Barra was transformed into an enchanting all-suite hotel that belongs to the prestigious Relais & Chateaux group of hotels. Each of the 12 suites has a balcony overlooking the harbour, a huge rainforest shower and steam room, B&O 40-inch TV plus one in the bathroom, free internet access, films and minibar. There is a romantic Spanish restaurant, an irresistible outdoor pool, and, within the hotel precincts, the beautiful little Chapel of St James. An authentic and utterly delightful retreat.
Rocks Hotel
Rocks Hotel is a charming boutique hotel at the tip of Fisherman’s Wharf, its 72 rooms all with balconies overlooking the harbour. The luxurious cream and gold lobby with its marble, grand staircase, oil paintings and chandeliers, is a foretaste of the old-fashioned opulence throughout. On the fifth floor rooftop is the elegant Sky Lounge, the ground floor Vic’s Café serves international dishes and fresh seafood from its open kitchen, there is a pub too, a gym and business centre. Rooms boast a 42-inch plasma satellite TV, free internet access, separate bathtub and shower.
